Winter Break

We have been a little quiet over here lately because last week Olin was on Winter Break. Yep, that's right, he gets a week off to celebrate each of the seasons during the school year... Fall, Winter and Spring.  In addition to our trips to Connecticut and Boston, we had a few play dates over the break lest he miss his classmates...

And one rainy afternoon, we put on our skinny cords (well, Olin did, nothing is "skinny" about my wardrobe lately) and rain boots and spent some time at Barnes & Noble...

Even with all the fun at home last week, I know little mister is happy to be back in school.  Particularly since this week has been extra fun with (a slightly late) celebration of Chinese New Year.  So far, they have received traditional red envelopes filled with money (a quarter) and silver confetti, tried Chinese noodles, and drank tea, which apparently Olin loved.  Ah, the life of a 2 year old... it doesn't get much better!

Happy Wednesday everyone!

Beantown

We spent this past weekend in Boston with our wonderful friends Erin and Corey.  Boston is such a beautiful city and it is especially nice to have great friends to visit while we are there.  Little mister loved the endless attention from the Schenck's and I think he is a little bored with just mommy and daddy now that we are back home.  To complete our wonderful visit, we had great luck with travel there and back - we made it in record time (3.5 hours!) both ways for which we are especially grateful having a two year old in he back seat!

Thanks Erin and Corey for your hospitality... we had such a great time and miss you guys already!

Preparing for Baby

Following the suggestion of the school psychologist, we bought Olin a baby doll over the weekend to start preparing him for the real baby's arrival. We named her "June" because a) Olin can say "June" and 2) the real baby's arrival is expected that month.  So far so good, he naps with her, reads her stories, gives her rides on his car and is in general very sweet with her, although he did step on her head once.  Luckily we have a few more months to work on that.

We are in Boston for the weekend to see our dear friends Erin and Corey!  Hope everyone has a great weekend!

New Haven, Connecticut

This past Friday, Josh had some business in Connecticut so Olin and I came along and the two of us had a day of fun together outside of the city.  We were excited to see that our Shake Shack from NYC had a location in Connecticut so little mister and I indulged in a very un-Burgher like lunch of hamburger, fries and strawberry shake (well, Olin only ate the fries and shake, but he sure did love both!)  I also introduced him to the magic of dipping his fries into his shake... delicious.

As I sat there beside Olin, who so cutely made yummy noises with every bite and showed everyone around us his fries, I felt baby girl dancing around in my belly.  It was one of those moments that made me feel like just about the luckiest girl in the world.  It was the first of hopefully many special lunches with my two little ones...

With full tummies, we headed across the street to Yale's campus where Olin ran and ran and ran some more.  He entertained the students by pushing his stroller all over campus and laughing hysterically at himself every time he veered off the path and into a snow bank...

After he exhausted himself with all that running, we made a visit to the Connecticut Children's Museum, which had all of these different themed rooms for Olin to explore.  He loved it... especially the "music" and "mathematics" rooms and pay phones that were hung just right for his height.  This little boy sure does love phones...

Thank you Connecticut for such a lovely day that I am sure to never forget!

Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!  We have had a lovely day in the Burgher house so far.  We made special Valentine's Day pancakes (or flapjacks as Olin likes to call them) for breakfast that were whole wheat with ricotta, raspberries and honey... heart shaped, of course!

Olin also excitedly opened his Valentine's Day presents (a new book and a special Valentine's Day sweater) and we packed him a Valentine's Day themed lunch complete with heart-shaped cheese and salmon salad sandwiches.

Finally, we brought him to school where he so cutely delivered Valentine's to his teachers.  I think the pictures of him below outside of his classroom in his new red sweater are some of my new favorites!

Whew!  It's not even 9:45am and I am already exhausted!

Hope you all have a nice day of guilt free chocolate and sweets eating with your loved ones!  We are off to Connecticut tonight to continue the Valentine's Day fun!
