Uncle Rick and Aunt Jean in NYC

This past weekend wasn't just about celebrating Independence Day in the Burgher house, Uncle Rick and Aunt Jean were also in town!  We had a nice time relaxing at home with them on Saturday while on Sunday, we ventured out of the house for brunch at Atlantic Grill.  It was so great to see them and we wish that Arizona wasn't so far away from New York!

And while Odette seemed very fond of Aunt Jean, after last weekend, Olin has a new best friend and his name is Uncle Rick...

We didn't get any good photos of Odette at brunch on Sunday because she was in her baby sling the entire time, so here are a couple of her napping on Sunday afternoon after a very fun holiday weekend!

One Month

Today our little girl turns one month old.  Part of me can't believe that a month has already passed while the other part of me feels like she has been a member of our family forever.

I thought I would take this opportunity to make note of some of the things we have learned about our little lady thus far;
  1. She loves to eat.  She had her one month check-up today and weighed in at a whopping 10 pounds 12 ounces;
  2. She loves tummy time and taking baths;
  3. She is quite possibly the World's best cuddler;
  4. She rarely cries; and, most importantly
  5. She is absolutely wonderful and we could not possibly love her more!
Happy one month birthday, Odette!  We love you more than all the numbers.

July Fourth

It was a steamy holiday weekend in NYC, but we had a wonderful time nonetheless.  On the fourth, we met a couple of Olin's classmates and their parents in Central Park for a little fun at the playground and a picnic (of course)...

After a few hours outside, we sought refuge from the heat at Momofuku Milk Bar for some incredible ice cream (swirled cherry donut and cereal milk... such an ingenious place).

And leaving Momofuku... yes, this is how we travel now, I feel like I am part of a parade every time we leave the house.  We really need to look into getting a double stroller...

After a nap for all of us at home... the heat is really exhausting, we headed out for our July 4th traditional dinner at EJ's Luncheonette.  At EJ's we had our very first egg cream - we moved to NYC 9 years ago so I am not sure why it took us this long (although Josh claims that we have had them before, I, however, have no recollection of such occasion).  Anyway, I tried it first and then it was Olin's turn.  He took a big sip out of the straw and then proceeded to spit the entire mouthful back into the glass just in time for Josh's turn (sorry Josh).  And as per usual, little miss Odette slept through it all.

And after such an exhausting day (and then a night of feedings), the boys even let us girls sleep in a little the next morning...

 Hope everyone had a great holiday weekend!

Oh, and happy 4 week birthday Odette!  We love you!

Bedtime Stories

I think there are some definite pros and cons with being the second baby in a family.  The biggest pro to me is that mom and dad have (hopefully) learned some things with the first baby and won't make the same mistakes with the second.  A definite con, on the other hand, is that the second baby doesn't get the undivided attention that the first received in those early days.  Fortunately for us, Olin is a good little sleeper and is typically in bed promptly at 7pm.  Which means that Josh and I have from 7pm to about 10:30pm every night to give little Odette our full attention.  I look forward to this time every day because it feels a bit like the calm following the storm of craziness that is life with an always going, but still wonderful, 2 year old.

One of the things that we have been doing during this special time is reading Odette stories before we go to bed.  Our current rotation includes Brown Bear, Brown Bear, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, and Pat the Bunny.  I had to share these photos of story time the other night because I think it is so cute how she looks like she really is listening to Josh...

And because I feel that I haven't posted enough photos of Olin lately, I thought I would share these that I took of him and Josh several days ago because in my opinion these two together are about as cute as it gets!

A Visit From Grandma and Grandpa

Grandma Peg arrived last Tuesday and Grandpa Greg on Thursday to meet Odette (their first granddaughter!) and, of course, to see Olin (which he could not have been happier about).  As you can tell from the photos below, Odette fell in love with her grandparents immediately...
