Our Little Doll

Upon seeing the post from Rob, Julie and Syd's visit, Grandma Lisa commented that our little Odette, on her bad hair day, resembled a Kewpie doll.  Not remembering what the dolls looked like, I Googled for images and I have to admit, the resemblance is uncanny. I think we may have found a new nickname for our little lady.  (And in case it's too hard to tell, Odette's the one on the right!)

Happy Wednesday!

"I Wanna Give Odette Big Hugs"

We probably hear Olin say this about 20 times a day.  Often times when Odette is napping and as such, this is often how Odette wakes up.  Toddlers are a lot of things, but gentle and graceful they are not, so I think I detect a slight twinge of dread in Odette's eyes each time she hears Olin say this.  But he means well and is so sweet with his sister that you've got to love him for it.  Hey, it could be a lot worse... we can't complain that he is so eager to show his little sister affection.

Here are a couple of photos of Olin giving Odette "big hugs" last Thursday afternoon.  Not my best camera work, but I was trying to take the pictures while ensuring that poor little Odette didn't suffer any pokes to the eyes or too hard of squeezing!

Future best buddies?  Oh, we sure hope so! (Don't mind Odette's pained expression in the first photo)

Our Visitors From the West

Last week was a great one for us because uncle Rob, aunt Julie and cousin Sydney were in town from California to meet Odette and visit Olin.

Odette loved them all and Sydney stole Olin's heart when she let him play with her phone!  They also brought Olin a Slinky and although he doesn't know exactly what to do with it yet, it has quickly become one of his favorite toys.

Many of my photos from their trip were taken with my phone because I didn't want to lug around the big camera so I will post those separately.  Until then, here are a few that we took hanging out at home (clearly Odette, the poor thing, was having a bit of a bad hair day)...

Six Weeks and Birth Announcements

Our little one turned six weeks old yesterday and we are entering a really great stage because she has started smiling a lot and cooing over the past few days.  To me, little in life is better than those first toothless grins and sweet sounds.

We got the call yesterday afternoon notifying us that her birth announcements (that I am already a little late in sending out) have finally arrived.  So Odette and I made our way over to the stationary store this morning to pick them up only to find that they read that she weighed 8 pounds 1 ounces (plural).  So back they go to get reprinted.

This is a shop that counts the likes of Martha Stewart and Vera Wang as loyal customers as evidenced by photos of the aforementioned displayed proudly on the walls.  I bet Martha doesn't receive this kind of service.

At this point my goal is to send out Odette's birth announcements before we send out invitations to her first birthday party!

Photos from yesterday while we anxiously awaited the birth announcement of the royal baby.  Okay, so maybe only I was excited about the impending arrival... clearly, Odette couldn't have cared less.

One of the Great Things About Living in NYC...

You can show up to your neighborhood bookstore for Saturday morning story hour to learn that the entire hour will be conducted in Chinese by a Chinese children's books author.  We had a great time and even picked up a few new Chinese words and phrases.

And not only did the hot and humid weather make us feel like we were in the tropics this weekend, our Whole Foods store was selling coconut water still in the shell on the street...

Our only other activities to speak of over the weekend were the purchase (finally!) of a double stroller, which you can kind of see in the photo above, as well as dinner Saturday night at The Mermaid Inn and Sunday brunch after church at Le Pain Quotidien.  Both meals were fine, but the really good eating was at home, where Josh perfected cold-brewed coffee using this recipe and where we made this delicious pizza last night.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Sweet, Sweet Sleep

Let the record show that our little girl slept through the night for the first time last night!  She fell asleep around 11pm and I was elated to see 5:50am on the alarm clock when she finally woke me up  Her big brother has her beat by sleeping through the night for the first time 2 days before his one month birthday, but sleeping through the night at 5 weeks is still pretty darn impressive.  We really lucked out with some good sleepers over here!

I have been racking my brain about exactly what we did with her yesterday so that we can ensure to do the same today to encourage a second restful night.  Fingers crossed that last night is the new norm rather than a one-time gift from our little one.

Sweet dreams!

A Rose for a Rose

When I was born, my dad gave me a single yellow rose to celebrate my birth.  And on each year subsequent, he gave me yellow roses for my birthday in number equal to the age I was turning.

Well. knowing how much this tradition meant to me, Josh decided to do the same for Odette.  It was such a sweet surprise to me when he showed up to the hospital with a single rose for our little girl.  He modified my dad's and my tradition slightly by getting our little girl a pink rose rather than a yellow one to make their tradition their own.  He even got the rose at what I think is one of the cutest florists on the Upper East Side.

She is a lucky lady to have such a wonderful father (as am I).

And not to worry, Josh also brought me the most beautiful hyacinth that so wonderfully perfumed our little hospital room during our stay.  I will forever think of this special time in our lives when I smell the lovely scent of hyacinth.

Pretty Babies

A few weeks ago, at just ten days old, Odette had her first photo shoot.  And last week we finally got the photos from the shoot.  Although it was Odette's newborn session, our photographer took some beautiful shots of Olin as well, which I will try to post tomorrow.  Until then, here are a few of our little lady.

Odette's newborn photo session got me thinking back to Olin's newborn photo session.  Since we didn't have a blog back then and thus no good way to share them with you all, thank you for indulging me as I pull these out of the "archives" because they are just so sweet.  Here is little mister at seven days old.
