This past Saturday, after the excitement of the carnival, we came home and took naps to re-energize for dinner to celebrate the last day of summer. We thought it appropriate that for this farewell dinner we enjoy some of our favorite summertime treats from Luke's Lobster and Ciao Bella.
At Luke's, we got our shrimp rolls (for Josh and me) and grilled cheese (for Olin) to-go so that we could enjoy them in Central Park as we are painfully aware that our picnic days are numbered. And in a moment of parental pride, once in the park, Olin shunned his grilled cheese and asked for Josh's shrimp roll, which he ate in its entirety. (Thanks again, Josh, for sharing!) He does seem to be developing a palate more like that of his adventurous daddy rather than that of a 2 year old and we could not be happier about it.
Because we got a late start to the evening, it was way past Olin's bedtime by the time we got to the gelato portion of our celebration and that was definitely a highlight for him. He kept asking "is it nighttime?" like he had never been in the dark before because he is so used to going to bed when the sun is still shining brightly at 7pm. And if our late evening wasn't enough, it was the first time that Olin got his very own gelato at Ciao Bela and he picked his flavor, strawberry, all by himself.
It was a great summer, but the start of fall could not be more perfect than it has been in NYC this week so we are pretty excited for its arrival as well. Well, all of us except for Josh because it seems that his box of warmer clothes might have gotten lost in our move. So if you see photos of Josh in shorts and polos in the next few months, that is why. Only kidding, we will probably buy him a sweater or something.
Happy Tuesday everyone!
