Sunday Morning on the Upper East Side

A few weeks ago, we had a wonderful morning in our neighborhood.  The day started off with Olin's first ever Sunday school class!  I don't know how much he understood, but he loved it nonetheless.

After Sunday school, we celebrated this important first with brunch at the newly renovated EJ's (where Olin spent the first several minutes worried that his hand smelled "yucky".)

After EJ's, we decided it was time for Odette's first visit to the Metropolitan Museum of Art.  For this first trip, we thought it appropriate to bring her to see Degas' dancers (my personal favorites).

While looking at the Degas', the museum staff began a family program to teach patrons more about Degas and his work.  We decided to give the program a go and below is Olin listening to a talk about the process that Degas followed to create his sculptures... not bad for an almost 3 year old!

After the introductory talk, a woman took the children around the museum to learn more about the artist while looking at some of his work.  Olin was by far the youngest in attendance, but he did a great job.

This is one of my favorite photos because in it the children are trying to pose like the sculpture per their instructor's request.

The program ended with the children using charcoal to draw something inspired by the works of art they just saw.  Olin drew an "O" for Olin, naturally.  I am hovering because as they were handing out the supplies, the woman from the museum very sternly instructed that children were to "not get any charcoal on the floor!" - easier said than done with a toddler, but we managed to follow her instruction.

Oh, do I love how much this little guy loves the Met already.  Perhaps we have a budding artist (or dancer given his posing above!)

Happy Wednesday everyone!
P.S.  In other news, Odette had her 4 month check-up today.  She weighed in at a very "healthy" 14 pounds, 15 ounces and was given the "all great" by her doctor.  She also received her next round of vaccines - 3 in her chubby little thighs and one oral (poor girl).  I felt so bad because she was giving the nurse such great big smiles just before the first needle, oblivious to what was about to go down.  She cried hard, but recovered quickly.

A photo from the doctor's office, "pre-vaccines"...
