Over The Weekend

Rain and clouds gave us a great excuse to stay in most of the weekend to watch the Olympics.  Josh and I enjoyed our Team USA-themed dinner on Friday night and then Olin woke up to the same themed breakfast Saturday morning.  Needless to say, we are pretty excited about the Olympics around here.  We did leave the house a few times - we drove to the Whole Foods in Tribeca for groceries (have I mentioned how much we love having a car in the city!), went to church on Sunday and saw a very nice apartment (finally!).   I don't know if this one will work out, but Josh is putting his tough negotiation skills to the test to see if we can get it to work.

And then on Sunday evening, the sun resurfaced, literally and figuratively, when Grandma arrived!  Grandma is here until Thursday and we are so happy to have her around (although we do miss Grandpa).

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Our First Conversation?

While I often wish that time would slow down because our little guy is growing so fast, I do dream about the day when we'll be able to talk about well, anything really.  And today, I may have got a glimpse into our future chats.  We had a lunch date with Josh and when Josh left the table, Olin started looking around yelling "dada, dada".  I leaned over and told him that "daddy had to potty like baby Ernie" (Olin has a book that he loves called Baby Ernie: Too Big For Diapers).  Anyway, when I told him this, he looked at me and said "oh" and stopped calling for Josh.  Now this could be total coincidence, but I really think he understood me and was responding to what I said.  Perhaps at 21 months little mister should be saying more, but this little guy isn't really saying much of anything yet (he definitely is on his own timetable) so this was a big step!

Also, I am Matt Lauer excited about the Olympics, which is always the case with me but this will be Olin's first so it is just that much more exciting!  I have always loved the Olympics and maybe even have a rather embarrassing construction paper scrapbook of all the highlights from the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul.  So, to kick things off right, I have a special Team USA-themed dinner planned for Josh and me tonight in celebration of the Opening Ceremony and a red, white and blue breakfast for Olin tomorrow morning since the Opening Ceremony is after the little guy's bedtime.  Oh, I can't wait!

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Fun in the Afternoon Sun

There wasn't much going on around here today.  We had some heavy rain this morning, plus our elevator was out all day and I didn't feel like wrestling Olin up and down six flights of stairs, so we had a quiet day at home.  We did have some beautiful sun this afternoon so we played around with the camera for a while...

Hope everyone had a great Thursday!

Stars On The Wall

The latest "issue" in Burgher house is that Olin is fascinated with these little stars that have been stuck on the wall by the 6 year old girl of the family from whom we are subletting our apartment.  The problem is that little mister keeps taking these stars off the wall and eating them.  He has already eaten about a half dozen - I sure hope that these stars don't mean something special to this little girl.  I don't know if it's a toddler thing, a little boy thing or an Olin thing, but this little guy sure knows how to keep us on watch at all times!

"I Love You Like I Love Strawberry Milkshakes"

Is a line from one of Olin's current favorite books and nearly every time we get to its page, Olin makes "yum yum yum" noises.  I'm not quite sure why he knows to do that because he has never had a strawberry milkshake... until today.

After lunch, Olin and I made him his very own strawberry milkshake and he loved it!  So much so, that he kept asking for more - this guy really got his mommy's sweet tooth.

Something tells me that next time we read that book, those little "yum yum yums" will  be just a little bit louder and perhaps accompanied by pleas to make actual strawberry milkshakes.  I may have created a little milkshake monster today!

Over The Weekend

We had gorgeous weather this weekend so we spent a magical Saturday downtown - pizza in the Village at Otto, gelato in Little Italy at La Cremeria and shopping in Soho.  Oh, and the best part was that as we were walking through Washington Square Park, we stumbled upon a man playing the piano (in the middle of the park!) - it was so beautiful.  This man's brilliance reminded me of how wonderful it will be when Olin is old enough to take piano lessons.  There is little we love more than the piano in the Burgher house.

On Sunday, we had another picnic - this time in Central Park and looked at a few more apartments.  While I don't think we found the one, the apartments we saw this weekend were better than those we've seen over the past few weeks.  One in fact was in the building that George Gershwin not only called home for several years, but where he wrote Rhapsody in Blue!  Incredible as that was, its history did not compensate for its lack of washer/dryer and high price tag.  This weekend's apartments did, however, give us renewed hope that there is the perfect home for us somewhere in this city.  We are looking at another tonight, fingers crossed that this is it because it's only a few blocks away from our current place so the move would be a cinch!

P.S. Our little guy has been cuter than ever lately - this last photo is my new favorite of him and me.

Want To See My New iPhone Case?

Since I got my phone, I have been searching for the perfect case for it and I finally found it...
In my book, it doesn't get much cuter than this.  I ordered it today and cannot wait until it arrives.  And yes, I now that I am now bordering on obsessive with this little one, but I am pretty sure that's allowed when you are a mom.

If anyone else is interested in creating one, I made it on casetagram.com.

Have a great weekend everyone!

A Love Letter (in Pictures) To Our Summer Neighborhood

Although we have always felt that our little part of the Upper East Side was as close to perfect as you could get, we have fallen hard for Morningside Heights this summer.  It is so beautiful and serene that we often have to remind ourselves that we are in Manhattan.  Here are a few instagrams that we have taken over the past several weeks of this lovely neighborhood.

The last two are from our living room window which overlooks the Hudson River.  I wish we could capture the sunsets, but our photography skills don't do them justice, but believe me, they are breathtaking.

Lunch With An "Old" Friend

Olin is riding high around here these days because on Monday, we had another baby come for a visit.  This time it was our good friend Millie and her mom Jennie.

Millie was Olin's first friend so it's always great to get these guys together.  Jennie and her husband, Ross, were in our childbirth prep class at Rose and while our due dates were only a few days apart, Millie arrived early and Olin was late so they are exactly 20 days apart in age, but nearly identical in their personalities.

The two played with toys, ate each other's food, tried out their music skills on the piano, and Olin gave Millie a ride in his stroller.

Thanks Jennie and Millie for coming into the city to see us!  We had a great time!

Looking at these pictures got me thinking about how much these two have grown so I thought I would share some photos of Olin and Millie over the past 21 months...

The beginning (November 2010, Denver)

One (Olin) and two (Millie) months old (December 2010, Denver)

Four (Olin) and five (Millie) months old (March 2011, NYC)

One year old (October 2011, Long Island)

And now 21 months old (July 2012, NYC)
